PLOVDIV INSIDER - FOOD, HERITAGE AND CULTURE TOUR
Put your most comfortable shoes on, get your appetite ready and join your private guide for the most authentic experience of Plovdiv. Enjoy the flexibility to customise the day to your interests as you explore the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe.
What to expect
Leisurely stroll through Plovdiv's historical sites and savour authentic local food, and drinks, on a private 3-hour tour that tells the story of Plovdiv and its people while tempting all of your senses.
This walking tour covers roughly 5 kilometers ( about 3.7 miles ), and includes Plovdiv Old Town (part of UNESCO's tentative list) , the newly revived Kapana Art District, the Roman Stadium (2nd century AD), local food and drinks tastings and admission to the Roman Theater (1st century AD).
Throughout the Food, Heritage and Culture Tour of Plovdiv, you will encounter hidden cultural and historical attractions that the guidebooks and regular tours miss (don't take our words for granted, read what our customers say). Expect to try traditional pastries, classic local chutneys, authentic Bulgarian cheeses and yogurts, the harsh-flavoured fermented drink that every Bulgarian grew up on, traditional distilled spirits and the time-honoured Mavrud red wine, among many other traditional foods.
Your private guide, a native Plovdivian, has a depth of knowledge about Plovdiv and the region, so feel free to ask any burning questions along the way like: what was like living in Bulgaria during the communism or does yogurt come from Bulgaria or Greece?
This tour is also available as a day tour to Plovdiv from Sofia. In case you are arriving from Sofia for the day by bus or train, we will meet you at the station. Irina and Paul are the best tour guides we could have asked for! My partner and I are not typically the type of travellers who like to go on tours, but we couldn't resist when we saw this tour with local food, wine, and history.
Irina and Paul really made the tour unique with their extensive knowledge and personable nature. They showed us parts of Plovdiv that we would have never found on our own and don't get me started on the food! Everywhere we stopped was locally owned and off the beaten track.
I can't say enough good things about Slow Tours-a definite must for anyone who wants to get a real taste of Plovdiv.
Thank you Irina and Paul!
